Hirva Mamdani, M.D.

Dr. Mamdani is a thoracic medical oncologist and Associate Professor of Medicine and Oncology at Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Mamdani is the Leader of Thoracic Multidisciplinary Team and Director of Lung Cancer Screening Program at Karmanos Cancer Institute. She earned her MD from M P Shah Medical College in India, completed residency at Wayne State University, and pursued hematology/oncology fellowship at Indiana University, where she also served as the Chief Fellow.

Dr. Mamdani’s clinical and research focus is in the treatment of lung cancer, and she leads multiple clinical trials aimed at bringing new treatment options to patients. Dr. Mamdani joined the MSHO Board of Directors in 2024, inspired by its mission to support oncologists and hematologists in Michigan. She considers it an honor to collaborate with esteemed colleagues who bring a wealth of experience and dedication to advancing patient care, advocating for policies that improve patient access to cancer treatments, and enhancing educational opportunities for oncologists across the state. Additionally, as a member of the MSHO Young Professional Committee, Dr. Mamdani is passionate about mentoring and supporting trainees pursuing careers in Hematology/Oncology.
