Each year ASH provides more than $12 million in career development and training awards to early- and mid-career hematologists. Understanding the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic response on the economy and on medical research, the Society is continuing to provide support and much needed education and training to our members around the world, including maintaining funding for all 2021-2022 awards.

Applications are now being accepted for the following awards:

The Minority Medical Student Award Program (MMSAP) offers mentored introductory biomedical research experience to underrepresented minority medical students. Applications are due February 14, 2022 – Learn more.

The Minority Resident Hematology Award Program (MRHAP) provides support for underrepresented minority resident physicians in an internal medicine, pathology, or pediatric residency program to conduct hematology-focused research. Applications are due February 14, 2022 – Learn more.

The Minority Hematology Graduate Award (MHGA) provides support for underrepresented minority doctoral students in their first, second, or third year of graduate school to conduct hematology-focused research. Applications are due January 18, 2022 – Learn more. 

The Medical Student Physician-Scientist Award (Phy-Sci) provides an opportunity for first-, second-, and third-year medical students to gain experience in hematology research under the mentorship of an ASH member and to learn more about the specialty. Applications are due January 18, 2022 – Learn more.

The ASH Graduate Hematology Award (NEW) encourages graduate students in the United States and Canada to pursue a career in academic hematology by providing funding for students conducting research on hematology-focused projects. This award is open to doctoral students in their first, second, or third year of graduate school at the time of application. Applications are due February 1, 2022 – Learn more.

The HONORS Award contributes to the development of the next generation of hematologists by providing research funding for talented first-, second-, and third-year medical students as well as first- and second-year medical residents. Both short- and long-term projects are supported. Applications are due February 15, 2022 – Learn more.
