MSHO is once again partnering with the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) to offer the Certified Hematology Oncology Coder (CHONC) credentialing workshop and exam. The workshop will take place on Monday, March 30 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and the exam will be administered the following day from 7:30 am – 2:00 pm.

This course is being offered to MSHO member billers and coders who are new to the CHONC credential. Participation is required for both the workshop and exam. 

Workshop:
This accelerated prep course, presented by a live AAPC approved instructor, will cover material designed to prepare attendees for the CHONC credential. For more information on AAPC’s CHONC credential, click here.

Exam:
The CHONC examinee will be tested on:

  • Ability to read and abstract physician office notes and operative notes to apply correct ICD-10-CM, CPT®, HCPCS Level II and modifier coding assignments
  • Evaluation and management (both the 1995 and 1997 Documentation Guidelines)
  • Rules and regulations of Medicare billing including (but not limited to) incident to, teaching situations, shared visits, consultations, Local Coverage Determinations (LCD), National Coverage Determinations (NCD) and global surgery
  • Coding of surgical procedures performed by hematologists and oncologists and auxiliary staff such as chemotherapy administration, hydration services, therapeutic, prophylactic and diagnostic administration, bone marrow aspiration, bone marrow biopsies, venipuncture, vaccinations, therapeutic phlebotomy, etc.
  • Medical terminology
  • Anatomy and physiology

Please know that this course is not meant for individuals with limited billing or coding experience in hematology and oncology.  AAPC recommends a minimum of 2 years of experience.

CEU Information:
No CEUs will be awarded toward your CHONC certification. If you hold other credentials through AAPC, please let MSHO know; you may be eligible to receive credits towards other credentials, such as CPC.
