Community Oncologists Encouraged to Join ASCO Leadership Development Program
To learn more about the ASCO's Leadership Development Program or to apply, please visit www.asco.org/leadership.
Dear Practice Leaders,
I want to pass this information on to you regarding ASCO’s leadership development program.
I participated in the program in 2013-2014 and found it incredibly useful both at developing leadership skills important for professional development and at developing critical relationships that serve to help guide and direct the future of oncology practice. While this is a beneficial opportunity for community oncologists in practice, in my opinion, participation in this program and developing a collaborative relationship with ASCO is critically important for community oncology more generally. The natural consequence of having few community oncologists participate in this program and in the ASCO leadership will be under-representation of community oncology interests within the organization as a whole. ASCO needs our voice. Please consider nominating some of your young leaders to participate in the program, write them letters of support, and accommodate the time it takes to complete the program.
US Oncology has many other young leaders who have participated in the program, including Dr. Nathan Shumway from San Antonio (Texas Oncology), Dr. Dan Hamstra from Dallas (Texas Oncology), and Dr. Neelima Denduluri from Virginia Cancer Specialists.
Please encourage your young leaders to apply for this program and let me know if I can help in any way.
Warm regards,
Debra Patt
