MSHO Annual Meeting

While this year's MSHO Annual Meeting may look different due to the current health crisis, we will still be offering an outstanding educational session and a unique networking opportunity that you won't want to miss!

Topics include Sickle Cell Anemia (Asif Alavi, MD - Karmanos Cancer Institute), Lung Cancer, (Shirish Gadgeel, MD - Henry Ford Hospitaland a panel discussion on physician burn out. The Physician Burnout Panel Discussion will be led by members of the ASCO task force including Fay Hlubocky PhD (University of Chicago), Arif Kamal MD (Duke University), and Daniel McFarland (Memorial Sloan Kettering), as well as our own board member, Jerome Seid, MD, FACP (Great Lakes Cancer Management Specialists). These individuals will be giving their perspectives, refining the definition of burn out, and focusing on both individual and system-based principles that can lead to positive change.

Psychological, emotional, and physical well-being are critical in the development of the competent, caring, and resilient physicians and require proactive attention to life inside and outside of medicine. Well-being requires that physicians retain the joy in medicine while managing their own real-life stresses. Self-care and responsibility to support other members of the health care team are important components of professionalism; they are also skills that must be modeled, learned, and nurtured.

Immediately following the educational sessions, members of the panel will lead a one hour interactive mindfulness session to learn how to manage stress, build healthy habits into daily practice, and recognize symptoms of burn out. This guided activity will provide simple, do-able methods that one can incorporate into a real day.

We miss seeing you, and we know you miss seeing each other! While we still cannot meet in person, there will networking opportunities to connect with your colleagues.
